Description of Incident

While seated quietly on my cot, I was verbally threatened multiple times by a male individual who had taken the cot next to me after I was already present in mine. I had not interacted with him prior to the incident and was minding my own business, undoing my shoes.

Without provocation, the individual repeatedly stated:

“I’m going to kick your fucking ass.”

“I’m going to beat you.”

I immediately reported this verbal threat to front staff, who instructed me to notify security. I then reported the threat to a security guard.

When the security guard approached, the male individual began making false accusations about my behavior that did not occur. During the security interaction, the individual continued to turn toward me and repeat threats, including additional statements such as:

“I’m going to kick your ass.”

“I’m going to beat your father, your brother, your whole family.”

At no point did I threaten, provoke, or engage with this individual. I repeatedly expressed that I felt unsafe and that I was being threatened with physical violence.

Security Response

Despite my report as the threatened party, the initial security response was to instruct both the aggressor and myself to gather our belongings and leave the premises. I objected, stating clearly that I was the victim of repeated threats and had done nothing wrong.

A second security guard became involved. During this interaction, I was spoken to in an aggressive and dismissive manner. At one point, a security guard stated words to the effect of “you’re playing the victim,” to which I replied:

“No. I am the victim. There is a difference.”

I was then instructed not to speak further, so I did not.

Eventually, the male individual was told to leave. However, he was allowed to remain nearby for an extended period while slowly packing his belongings. During moments when security stepped away, he continued making threatening statements toward me. This prolonged exposure increased my fear and sense of danger. He told me he'd be waiting for me to come out to beat me down.

Outcome

I was threatened repeatedly with physical violence.

I was initially treated as equally culpable despite being the reporting party.

The aggressor was not immediately removed.

I felt unsafe throughout the interaction and unsupported by security staff.

The incident caused significant distress and fear for my personal safety.

Requested Follow-Up

I am requesting:

A review of security staff conduct during this incident.

Clarification of protocols regarding verbal threats and victim protection.

Assurance that individuals who report credible threats are not punished or silenced.

Documentation that I was the reporting party and victim, not a mutual participant.

Reflection

This is not an isolated event. It is a microcosm. Systems protect neither truth nor safety—they protect convenience. I was spared this time, but only because I look and sound the way I do. Others would not be.

The imbalance was clear. The aggressor wielded chaos as leverage, while authority leaned on routine and stereotype. My presence, my voice, my demeanor—these were treated as currency for safety I should never have to negotiate.

Threats lingered not because I invited them, but because the system chose inaction as default. This is the reality for countless people whose safety is contingent on luck, privilege, or being heard.

The tension, isolation, and systemic failure captured in a single frame. Verbal threats swirl like shadowed text, authority figures stand nearby but inattentive, and the victim remains exposed.

Every day, every space, can become a ledger of threats. I am writing mine down so it cannot be erased. I shouldn't be here, thi
