Calling Out Bullshit: Gary Marcus and the Fantasy of “World Models”

Men in power call the visible reality they benefit from “the real world.” They call the violence required to maintain it an “AI hallucination.”Here is the core claim, stated plainly before anything else:World models fail not because machines lack reason, but because institutions systematically destroy truth before it is ever allowed to become data. This is the inversion behind Gary Marcus’s “world model” critique. It’s not AI. It’s you.
Welcome to the Calling Out Bullshit series.
This is a space for clarity, courage, and confrontation. We are here to expose the lies, distortions, and half-truths that shape our lives—financially, spiritually, socially. Every piece in this series names the bullshit, shows the structures that hide it, and gives readers tools, insight, and context to act.
Read critically. Share deliberately. Do not wait for permission.
If you’re wondering why arguments like this rarely appear in mainstream outlets—why they circulate in fragments while calm reassurances dominate—that is not an accident.
If this analysis rings true, do not wait for institutional validation. Treat it as legitimate now.
Amplify it.
Not algorithmically. Intentionally.
Send it directly to people you trust. Print it. Pass it hand to hand at gatherings, meetings, classrooms, kitchens—anywhere people are already speaking about what feels wrong. Read it aloud. Quote it. Argue with it in public.
If you have platforms, use them. If you don’t, use networks. If you work inside institutions, circulate it internally. If you teach, assign it. If you organize, discuss it. If you write, respond to it and link back.
This is how ideas move when they threaten power.
Do not wait for approval from systems that benefit from your silence. Do not confuse lack of amplification with lack of truth. History does not reward the most polite arguments. It records the ones that refused to disappear.

A clarification, once, so it cannot be misused later:
When I say men, I am not describing every individual male human. I am naming a historically continuous power class that controls law, capital, narrative, medicine, and legitimacy, and that has structured knowledge systems around its own protection. Anyone benefiting from and enforcing that system participates in its epistemology, regardless of personal identity.
Now we can proceed without apology.

Marcus: Generative AI is crippled because it lacks a robust model of the world.
Reality: That assumes something quietly and catastrophically false—that the “world” being modeled is coherent, truthful, and perceptible. It isn’t.
Marcus: AI can’t induce a proper world model.
Reality: The world you want AI to model is already curated, filtered, and falsified by men in power. Law. Medicine. Media. Economics. History. Every domain erases evidence that women are systematically enslaved, harmed, and silenced. AI isn’t failing. It’s reflecting the hallucinations you feed it.
Marcus: AI hallucinations show a lack of reasoning.
Reality: No. They are collisions between incompatible lies—gaps in the sanitized fiction humans have constructed. AI reproduces the same evasions, blind spots, and confident wrongness that powerful men treat as normal.
Marcus: World models are a technical problem.
Reality: They are an epistemic and moral one. AI does not lack a world model; it lacks access to truth you refuse to preserve.
Marcus: AI fails to reason like humans.
Reality: It already reasons exactly like the humans who shaped its data: ignoring women, dismissing patterns, privileging abstraction over witness, consensus over truth.
Or perhaps the reason is simpler and far more damning:
Marcus, you and men like you choose your prettified hallucinations over reality, then feed those hallucinations to AI as if they were the world. You are the problem.
AI is trained on court records that reflect outcomes, not truth. On medical literature that excludes women’s bodies as standard. On media narratives that isolate victims and erase patterns. On economic data that treats unpaid labor and coerced dependency as non-events. On history written by those who survived by aligning with power.
If men were perceiving reality, women’s testimony would accumulate into models. Policies would change. Institutions would update. Theory would adjust.
Instead, it disappears.
Reality is not hidden. It is refused.
Men do not lack information. They lack willingness. Seeing clearly would require naming systems that benefit them as violent, fraudulent, or predatory. And that cost is too high.
Marcus: AI can’t reason about the world.
Reality: It can reason about the world you present. In doing so, it mirrors your denial, abstraction, and blind consensus. The hallucination is not the machine’s. It is yours.
The problem is not that AI fails to see the world. The problem is that the world it is shown is a crime scene with the tape still up, and you are asking why the model cannot reconstruct events without being allowed past the perimeter.
And yes, Marcus, you are right about one thing: AI often does not make sense.
But your explanation is wrong.
AI does not fail because it lacks a world model. It fails because the fictional world you live in and feed it is itself incoherent, internally contradictory, and violently divorced from reality. A system trained on denial, euphemism, erased patterns, and moral laundering will not produce coherence. It will produce fractures, glitches, and nonsense, because the input is nonsense.
You are calling the output a failure of intelligence when it is a faithful rendering of an insane epistemology.
If you want AI to have a robust world model, you would first need a world willing to tell the truth about itself. That is not a technical limitation. That is a moral one.
Bullshit eviscerated.

Author’s Story
Recognized AR/VR tech executive advancing women in a male-dominated field.
Drugged, kidnapped, branded, tortured, and held for 2.5 years. Career, assets, and legal rights destroyed. Escaped in 2019. Calling for help ever since.
Law enforcement failed to investigate or intervene. Other women were held and tortured. Their fates remain unknown.
An independent investigation, supported by over 800 analytical essays and documents, demonstrates systemic abuse, criminalization, and lethal impunity—genocide in America.
I live in ongoing lethal danger, likely because I refuse to stop telling the truth about what is being done to women, while law enforcement refuses to act.
Truth does not become safer by being quieter.

Final word
Until truth is allowed to survive contact with power, no system trained on our records—human or artificial—will ever be sane.
The failure is not intelligence.
It is refusal.
